=561 \\$aProvenance: From Peterborough Cathedral Library. To the head of a1 recto is "Joh[ann]es Maples:" [ending in a colon] in a sixteenth-century hand. Given the Peterborough connection, this may be a Cambridge student or fellow; if "Maples:" is an abbreviation, the name may match two entries in Venn, who records two individuals by the name of John Maplesden. The most likely is the one who matriculated from St John's in 1562, then migrated to Queens' where he took his BA in 1565/6, MA 1569 and BD in 1576. He was a rector in Essex, Kent and Suffolk, and University Preacher in 1575. The other did not matriculate until 1614, which is possibly a little late for the inscription.$5UkCU
=563 \\$aBinding: Late fifteenth- or early sixteenth-century English blind tooled calf over wooden boards. By Garrett Godfrey (the roll, Gray I, which includes a griffin, has his characteristic GG mark). Brass clasp to the centre of the foredge. Manuscript waste as a pastedown (Donatus with commentary) at the front.$5UkCU
=599 \\$aAnnotations: The word "pape" on the title page has been obliterated with pen, suggesting the book has been in England from at least the 1530s or 1540s. Early marginal notes and corrections throughout.$5UkCU
