    1. Expositio hymnorum. [Geneva: Louis Cruse, c.1490] (E‑069). On a1 and b8 blind impressions of bearer type. Binding: Contemporary limp parchment wrappers with cord tacketing (long stitch structure) on two tanned leather supports at the head and tail of the spine, a third central one now missing. On the inner side are the remains of a manuscript legal document. Size: 215 × 165 × 25 mm. Size of leaf: 215 × 151 mm. Front endleaves contain hymns with gloss in fifteenth/sixteenth-century hands: hymn: ‘[P]ange lingua gloriosi | Corporis misterium', for Corpus Christi; see Chevalier, Rep. hymn., 14467; AH L 586; VL VII 288-9; early marginal notes and underlining in faded black ink. A gathering of eight leaves, five of which contain additional hymns with gloss written in a contemporary hand, has been added between items 1 and 2, perhaps continuing from the verso of the last leaf of item 1, which contains the hymn: ‘Pange lingua Nicholay | Presulis preconium', for the translation of Nicolaus Myrensis (fourteenth century): see Chevalier, Rep. hymn., 14502; AH LII 269. On eleven manuscript endleaves are (1) verses on the seven penitential psalms, incipit: ‘Psallere propono deum septuplice modo . . .'; explicit: ‘ . . . Expliciunt septem psalmi per me Matheum Carnotensem'; (2) Vado mori (Walther 19965); explicit: ‘ . . . Expliciunt versus magistri Hugonis de Sancto victore per me Matheum Carnotensem'; (3) Epigramma . . . ad rev. in Christo patrem . . . dominum Stephano de Longo vico munere divino matisconensem antistetem dignissimum; incipit: ‘Insignis Stephanus anima tum corpore sanus . . .'; Etienne de Longwy was Bishop of Mâcon 1485-1511; (4) In terra nummus (Walther, Initia, 9131); (5) Sit Deo gloria (Walther, Initia, 18302) and many other pieces, the penultimate being a series of prayers to the Virgin having a prologue with the incipit: ‘Tos vreys catholiques et devotz serviteurs de la benoite vergine Marie . . .' the last being a French paraphase of the seven penitential psalms, incipit: ‘Domine in Sire en ta fureur ne me argue . . .'
