Occasional early marginal notes. On [y8v] a list of the Septem Psalmi Paenitentiales written in a sixteenth-century hand (signed and dated ‘P. M. 1599'). Many of the woodcut initials, including the historiated one, painted; initials are supplied in red and occasionally blue; red capital strokes and underlining. Provenance: Baumburg, Bavaria, Augustinian Canons, S. Margareta; on [ee1r] an inscription: ‘Monasterij Baumburg' in an eighteenth-century hand.   2. B-276(2) Second copy Three initials cut away (at the beginning of Hbr, I Pt and I Io); missing text supplied in manuscript. Wanting the blank leaf [a1]. Binding: Sixteenth-century blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, with two metal clasps. On both covers triple fillets form five concentric frames; the inner rectangle is decorated with a large lozenge-shaped stamp and four corner-pieces. Within the frames four different rolls with Renaissance ornaments and two triangular stamps. Size: 400 × 290 × 88 mm. Size of leaf: 380 × 260 mm. Sixteenth-century marginal notes and signatures. ‘Lit. G' written in pencil on endleaf. Woodcut initials painted. Initials are supplied alternately in red and blue; red paragraph marks, capital strokes, and underlining. Provenance: Petershausen, near Konstanz, Benedictines, S. Gregorius Magnus; on [a2r] a woodcut armorial stamp ‘Monasterii Petridomus'. ‘Dupl'. Joseph Niesert (1766-1841); on endleaf an inscription dated 1837; see sale (1843), lot 73.
