Binding: Eighteenth-century blind-tooled russia (bound for the Bodleian Library) over wooden boards; two metal clasps; blue-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Library on both covers. Size: 392 × 305 × 96 mm. Size of leaf: 380 × 278 mm. Foliation in ink by an early hand. Marginal notes in the gospels in German by an early hand indicating liturgical lessons. On [a1r] a ten-line initial is supplied in green with foliate scrolling and red infill with yellow pen-flourishing, within a light blue frame; floral extensions into the margins in blue, green, and magenta with gold dotting. Principal initials are supplied in red or blue with pen-flourishing in brown or red; other initials are supplied in red or blue, headings and chapter numbers in red; red capital strokes. Provenance: Purchased for £50; see Books Purchased (1794), 1 and Macray 276 (who gives the date of printing as 1466) [the Bodleian copy of this edition is B-240]. SHELFMARK: Auct. Y 4.1.
