  1. C-077(1) Copy Without gathering [Q] (the register). Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, two metal clasps. On both covers fillets form two concentric frames. On the upper cover in the outer frame a rectangular stamp with a lion, a palm-leaf stamp with a floral ornament, and four round stamps: a rosette, a lion, a saint (possibly Christ in the wine-press), and a pelican. Within the inner frame within a border formed by a rectangular stamp with a floral ornament, stamped scrolls lettered ‘Maria hilf'; in the corners, round stamps with the symbols of the four evangelists. In the central compartment, within a border formed by a narrow rectangular stamp with a plait-work pattern, a lozenge-shaped stamp with an eagle and the palm-leaf stamp. On the lower cover within the outer frame the round rosette stamp, a smaller rosette stamp and a round stamp with a lion, the stamped scroll and the palm-leaf stamp. Within the inner frame the stamped scroll. In the central compartment, the stamps with the symbols of the four evangelists and the palm-leaf stamp. Size: 305 × 220 × 90 mm. Size of leaf: 290 × 201 mm. Front and rear pastedowns from a twelfth-century parchment manuscript missal. A few early marginal notes. Woodcut initial on [a2v] is coloured in red, green, and blue. Initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or green; running headlines, foliation, and capital strokes in red; red and green underlining. Provenance: Engraved armorial book-plate: per pale, a patriarchal cross, on a bend F B M, a vine over all springing from four mounds; the shield surmounted by the Holy Dove descending, flanked by initials D (or O?) P; the shield flanked by initials F HB. Label stating ‘Cat. 18 53' pasted to the lower cover; on the spine the number ‘53'.
