C-332(1) First copy Binding: Nineteenth-century gold-tooled red morocco, by Bozérian le jeune; his name is on the spine; marbled pastedowns, gilt-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 205 × 145 × 12 mm. Size of leaf: 198 × 138 mm. On [a1r] a four-line initial 'O' is supplied in red, with pink and blue pen-work in the area defined by the letter, decoration, and extensions into the inner margin. Other initials are supplied in red. Capital strokes in red. Provenance: Purchased from Payne and Foss for £10. 10. 0; see Books Purchased (1825), 7, and ‘Catalogus Bibliothecae Novae', fol. 88.   2. C-332(2) Second copy Binding: Nineteenth-century(?) dark blue morocco, with gilt-edged leaves. Two parchment endleaves. Size: 220 × 152 × 13 mm. Size of leaf: 210 × 140 mm. Early marginal notes (washed out); corrections to text, including the addition of some punctuation marks. On [a1r] a four-line initial 'O' is supplied in red, with red and green pen-work decoration in the area defined by the letter, and extensions into the inner margin. Other initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Capital strokes and underlining in red.   3. C-332(3) Third copy Binding: Sixteenth/seventeenth-century English (Oxford) blind-tooled calf. Interlocking triple fillets form a frame, within which is an ornamental centrepiece (see Pearson, Oxford Bookbinding, p. 110, no. i); two green cloth ties lost. Shelfmark written across the fore-edge in black ink. Leaves [a2] (rear pastedown) and [a7] (upper pastedown) only, the latter almost completely covered by a later pastedown. Size: 166 × 105 × 45 mm. Size of leaf: 161 × 100 mm. Provenance: Robert Burton (1577-1640); name on title-page; see Kiessling, Robert Burton, no. 234a. Provenance: Bequeathed to the Bodleian in 1640. SHELFMARK: 8o B 143 Art.
