Manuscript signature and date added in the same hand as in the other items; in items 1 and 2 early manuscript foliation; also in items 1 and 2 early marginal notes, some in red ink, and underlining in the text, mainly extracting key words (proper names), probably in the hand which wrote item 3. Item 3 begins with a verse of 8 lines entitled ‘Joannes presbyter ad suam epistolam', with incipit, ‘Pontificis quotiens optaui o littera sacios(!) | Nec mihi concessum est tangere posse pedes'; this is followed by the text, with incipit, ‘[P]ræclare scriptum est ab antiquis, beatissime pater, non nobis solum . . .’ Provenance: Engraved book-plate: a coat of arms surrounded by rows of books, the charges erased; above, erased inscription: ‘Mr Jones Engraver . . .’ The shelfmark supports a date of acquisition c.1841, although only item 4 can be found in Books Purchased (1841), at p. 34, for £1. 1. 0; from Payne and Foss according to the manuscript list of books purchased 1837-42.
