Binding: Seventeenth-century (Oxford) calf; ornamental centre-pieces on both covers, see Ker, Pastedowns centre-pieces pl. vii, no. xi; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library superimposed on the upper cover; two ties lost. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover.
Size: 272 × 205 × 53 mm.
Size of leaf: 268 × 184 mm.
On a1r of item 2, in a fifteenth/sixteenth-century English hand, a tabular analysis of the four senses of the Bible: ‘Sacra scriptura potest exponi quatuor modis, scilicet Historice, Allegorice, Tropoloce(!) Anagogice. Historia est narratio . . .' Some other marginal annotations, including corrections to the text and numbers as ‘nota' marks.
On a1v, e1r, e4r, i4r, i8v, k7v, l5v, and l8r of item 1 memoranda in an early English hand containing the names of Elizabeth Ledwell(?), widow, Thomas Moore and Elizabeth Gibbes, John Wekyn, Hugo Esten' and Robert Lanranc', Rycharde Sytm'.
