Binding: Eighteenth-century calf; the spine gold-tooled; marbled pastedowns; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 291 × 198 × 38 mm. Size of leaf: 284 × 185 mm. Early marginal notes in humanist hands. On [a5r] an eight-line initial is supplied in gold surrounded by white vine-stems defined in blue, red, and green; three-quarter border is supplied in gold surrounded by white vine-stems defined in blue in a wreath in the lower margin, a coat of arms: or, on a chevron azure three stars of the first, between three twigs of vine proper, over an erased coat which had a fess lozengy. At the beginning of each book, principal initials are supplied in gold on a blue, red, or green ground with white dotting; other initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue. Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823); sale (1824), lot 1061 or 1062; note: ‘From Sykes sale £9-0-0' on front pastedown; the price matches the first copy; the binding was described as red morocco.
