  1. G-278(1) Copy Leaves [d3-4] have changed places with [f3-4]. Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards; remains of metal bosses and clasps; rebacked. Quadruple fillets form an intersecting double frame. Within the outer frame a foliate staff stamp; seven diagonal fillets divide he inner rectangle into triangular compartments, decorated with headed-outline tools and foliate stamps; acorns and leaves have been stamped on the diagonal fillets; rosette stamps in the corners and at the centre of the inner rectangle. From a manuscript label on the upper cover it appears that the volume at one time contained also ‘Tractatus de modo praedicandi'; shelfmark ‘A 70', in red; for another book with a Dürnstein provenance see Goldschmidt I 142-3 and plates VIII, XCIC, but not showing these stamps. Size: 285 × 204 × 43 mm. Size of leaf: 271 × 196 mm. On [a1r] an early inscription, damaged, mostly unread: ‘Manipulus curatorum emptus [ ] pro fratribus eius monasterii [ ]'. Some marginal annotations, extracting key words, in an early hand; early foliation in the upper margin in brown ink; the gatherings are numbered in the lower margin in red ink. On [a4v] an eight-line initial is supplied in red on a green ground surrounded by a yellow and blue double frame, edged in red; the space defined by the letter has network decoration with red and yellow spots. Other two- to four-line initials are supplied in red or green, or sometimes blue; paragraph marks, underlining of chapter headings, and capital strokes in red. Provenance: Dürnstein, Lower Austria, Canons Regular, BVM; inscription on [d3r]: ‘Iste liber est canonicorum Regularium beate Marie virginis in Tirnnstein'; other similar inscriptions have been cancelled.
