Leaves in gatherings v and x reinforced in the gutters by strips of manuscript, etc. Binding: Quarter calf; marbled paper boards (over parchment manuscript leaves, perhaps containing music), gold-tooled spine, and marbled pastedowns. Spine detached. Size: 288 × 207 × 39 mm. Size of leaf: 282 × 195 mm. Occasional early annotations, including corrections to the text, and scribbles. One- to eight-line initials are supplied in red or blue; paragraph marks are supplied in red; capital strokes and underlining in red. Woodcut border coloured in orange, blue, green, yellow, and pink. Running headings in upper margins indicating registers. Provenance: François-Joseph Vergauwen (1801-1881); note (presumably of acquisition) by him on the verso of the front endleaf, dated 1835: ‘Bruxelles 7bre 1835'; sale, catalogue I (1884), lot 144.     2. Wech der sielen salicheit. [Netherlands: Printer of Wech der sielen salicheit, n. d.] (W‑008). Binding: Contemporary (Netherlandish) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards; two clasps and catches lost. On both covers triple fillets form a frame within which is repeated a triangular dragon stamp. Further triple fillets form an inner rectangle which is divided by double fillets into triangular and lozenge-shaped compartments decorated with a large rosette stamp, a fleur-de-lis stamp, and a lozenge-shaped imperial eagle. See Foot, ‘Monasteries and Dragons', 200 and pl. 2, nos 6 (dragon) and g (fleur-de-lis). A paper slip measuring 256 × 85 mm with the inscription: ‘Het. Leuen. der. voorvaderen'; a pencil note suggests that it was intended to be pasted in to cover the fore-edge. Size: 301 × 212 × 66 mm. Size of leaf: 287 × 208 mm. One- to eight-line initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red; capital strokes in red. Title in red crayon on a1r. Provenance: Anne Cottrel (†1641?); inscription on a3r of item 1: ‘Anne Cottrel 1641 prie pour elle'; also name on [a1v] of item 2.
