a1r Baebius Italicus: Ilias latina. ‘Homerus de bello troiano.’ Incipit: ‘[I]ram Pande mihi Pelidae diua superbi | Tristia quae miseris iniecit funera grais'; hexameters. The translation is ascribed to Pindarus [Thebanus] in the last verses of the book: ‘ . . . Troica gesta canens hic hic finitur Homerus | Pyndarus hunc librum fecit sectatus Homerum | Græcus Homerus erat sed Pyndarus iste latinus.’ Marco Scaffai, Ilias Latina, Edizioni e saggi universitari di filologia classica, 28 (Bologna, 1982), 83-191, with the attribution to Pindarus Thebanus at 35-6.
