  1. J-249(1) Copy Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards. Two catches and clasps lost. Rectangular paper label with manuscript title at the head of the spine; ‘E' printed on a rectangular paper label at tail of the spine. Triple fillets form a frame. Diagonal triple fillets divide the inner rectangle into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, each subdivided respectively into four or three triangular compartments by double fillets. An apex stamp on the hypotenuse of each triangle; floral stamps at the intersection of the fillets. Strips of manuscript parchment visible in the binding; compare the binding of J‑245. Size: 427 × 274 × 90 mm. Size of leaf: 416 × 265 mm. On a1r an early manuscript list of contents, in alphabetical order. Early chapter headings in the outer margins of the rectos; book numbers; marginal notes, extracting key words, proper names, and providing comments, in a sixteenth-century hand. On S10v a sixteenth-century list of rubrics, with reference to folio numbers; folio numbers have also been supplied in the list of rubrics. Manuscript foliation: ‘1-349' in the same hand. On the front endleaf are two legal notes in the same sixteenth-century hand. At the beginning of each book, except book I, six- to ten-line initials are supplied in interlocked red and blue. Other initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue. Provenance: Johannes Maier (fifteenth century); inscription on a1v: ‘Ioannes Maier von Würtzburg | von Wort [ ]ill so ist mein Zihl'. Würzburg, Bavaria, Augustinian Hermits, S. Georgius; inscription on a2r: ‘FF. Eremit. S. August. ex liberalitē dnæ Iustinæ Vrsulæ Maierin.'
