Wanting gathering [**] containing the list of errors found in the works of Lactantius; the deficiency being made good in pen-and-ink facsimile, bound after gathering [r], with the first leaf being bound in reverse; wanting also the blank leaves [*10] and [r9-10]. Leaf [a1r] in the variant state as in the BMC second copy. The lower margins of the leaves in gatherings [*], [a–c], and [r] have been repaired. Binding: Eighteenth-century gold-tooled red morocco; marbled pastedowns; gilt-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 293 × 225 × 46 mm. Size of leaf: 288 × 209 mm. Some ‘nota' marks and pointing hands. On [a1r] a six-line Italian (Roman, by 'the Master of the Barbo Missal') initial ‘M' is supplied in maroon and yellow with white pen-work, on a gold ground edged in black; within the body of the letter green vine-stem scrolling on a blue ground; foliate and floral extensions into the inner and upper margins in blue, green, black, maroon, and white, with gold dots, and a small bird in green and blue. Other similar principal five- and six-line initials are supplied in maroon, blue, yellow, and green with white pen-work, on a gold ground edged in black, floral and foliate decoration within the body of the letter in these colours, small extensions into the margins in green, blue, maroon, white, and black with gold dots; see Pächt and Alexander II 106, no. pr. 1; and, for the identification of the workshop, see now Martin Davies, 'From Mainz to Subiaco: Illumination of the First Italian Printed Books', in La Stampa romana nella citta dei papi e in Europa, ed.
