Binding (of S 2.10 Jur.):16th-century blind-tooled calf over pasteboards, with red-edged leaves; two ties lost. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover. On both covers intersecting fillets form frames. Both covers are decorated by two repeated ornamental rolls. Re-backed. Former shelfmark number '1' written in black ink across the fore-edge.
Provenance: Date of acquisition by the Bodleian uncertain, but probably between 1861 and the late 1880s. For the individual items:
1) A copy of this edition appears in James, Catalogus (1605), p. 304, under the shelfmark C 8.11 Art, but with cross-reference to P 3.1 Art., also James, Catalogus (1620), p. 109 with both shelfmarks given; copies are also recorded in Fysher, Catalogus (1738), I 238, and Catalogus (1843), I 425. No previous shelfmarks recorded in this copy, except the figure '1' on the fore-edge.
2) A copy of this edition appears in James, Catalogus (1605), p. 366, under the shelfmark P 3.1 Art., also James, Catalogus (1620), p. 406 with the same shelfmark; not found in Fysher, Catalogus (1738), or in Catalogus (1843). No previous shelfmarks recorded in this copy, except the figure '1' on the fore-edge.
3) No copy of this edition appears in James, Catalogus (1605), but it does appear, under the shelfmark P 3.1 Art., in James, Catalogus (1620), p. 504; not found in Fysher, Catalogus (1738), or in Catalogus (1843). No previous shelfmarks recorded in this copy, except the figure '1' on the fore-edge.
4) A copy of this edition appears in James, Catalogus (1605), p. 324, with a cross-reference to V 3.7 Art., also James, Catalogus (1620), p. 192 with the shelfmark G 6.7 [Art.]; Fysher, Catalogus (1738) I p. 428, with shelfmark G 2.9 Art. No previous shelfmarks recorded in this copy, except the figure '1' on the fore-edge.
5) A copy of this edition appears in James, Catalogus (1605), p. 356, with a cross-reference to V 3.7 Art., but not identified in James, Catalogus (1620); not found in Fysher, Catalogus (1738). No previous shelfmarks recorded in this copy, except the figure '1' on the fore-edge.
However, given the fact that none of these shelfmarks appear in this item, and only one of the other items in this volume, appear in earlier Bodleian catalogues, it seems likely that this volume was only acquired between 1861 (the final year for which printed purchase lists of acquisitions were published), and 1888 (the publication of the Annual Reports of the Curators).
SHELFMARK: S 2.10 Jur. (pastedowns).
