=561 \\$aProvenance: Early manuscript note to front blank, partially erased and difficult to read. Nineteenth-century note on a separate slip of paper, pasted to the rear pastedown, signed W. H. J. Weale. Armorial bookplate of "Aldenham House Herts" to front pastedown, with the manuscript shelfmark I.3. On 6th March 1895 was auctioned "A valuable portion of the library formed by William Stuart...late of Hill Street, and Aldenham Abbey, Herts." However, this volume does not appear in that sale catalogue. Pencilled to the front blank is "Bought of Ellis". Given to the library by Alwyn Faber Scholfield (University Librarian 1923-1949) on 23 March 1937 (bookplate and note).$5UkCU

Stamps include a stag within a small square, a double-headed eagle (both within a large square and a lozenge) and a small fleur-de-lys in a lozenge. Originally clasped from back to front (all fixtures now gone) and with evidence of circular bosses at each corner and in the centre of each board (all now gone). Manuscript waste used to strengthen binding.$5UkCU
=599 \\$aDecoration: Illuminated initial to a1r, with an illuminated border in red, green, pink and blue down the left and lower margins. More than a dozen other illuminated initials throughout the volume. In the left margin of [1]5v is a 38 mm quare illumination of Christ's face on a [St Veronica's] handkershief, the halo in burnished gold and the handkerchief highlighted in blue. In a different style from the rest of the illumination. Each recto foliated in manuscript throughout, in the same red as the principal initials, which have also been supplied in manuscript.$5UkCU
