N-026(1) Copy Wanting gathering [G]. Binding: Contemporary German(?) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards with a metal centre-boss on the upper cover, four metal corner-pieces on each cover, two metal catches, and the remains of one metal clasp; parchment pastedowns and endleaves; on the upper cover the title is written on a strip of parchment, pasted down, and protected by a piece of transparent horn itself held down by a narrow brass frame, broken along the lower edge. On both covers fillets form a rectangle which is divided by further double fillets into triangular and lozenge-shaped compartments, decorated with a small flower-petal stamp, a lozenge-shaped eagle stamp, a lozenge-shaped quatrefoil stamp, and, on the lower cover only, a lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lis stamp (all very worn and damaged). Size: 428 × 290 × 102 mm. Size of leaf: 418 × 278 mm. Occasional early marginal annotations. On [a2r] a 13-line initial ‘Q' is supplied in gold on a blue ground with an extension into the margin; other one- to five-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, are supplied in red or blue; running section numbers are supplied in the margins in red (many being written over erasures); capital strokes in red; punctuation and paragraph marks overwritten in red.
