Bound in the following order: part II gatherings [f–g]: the Compendium; part III; part II, first 2 gatherings [a–b]. Leaf [³ g1] is bound between [³ h2] and [³ h3]; sheet [r3.6] has been misbound within sheet [r4.5]. Binding: Eighteenth-century French faded red morocco, with triple gold fillets on each cover, gold-tooled spine, and marbled pastedowns; perhaps bound by Weir. Size: 269 × 217 × 37 mm. Size of leaf: 260 × 192 mm. Occasional marginal annotations. The text is enclosed within red rules, probably by Mrs Weir; the leaves are numbered in the gutters. Provenance: Justin, comte MacCarthy Reagh (1744-1811); see Catalogue of a Cabinet of Books lately imported from France (London: Leigh and Sotheby, 18 May 1789), lot 1212, sold to [Charles?] Marsh for £0. 5. 0. Charles Marsh (1735-1812); not found in sale (London: J. Christie, 1 Feb. 1816). Ticket ‘761' on the recto of the front endleaf. Labels on spine: ‘M 16' (petal-shaped label, edged in red), and ‘1/11' on a circular white label.
