Binding: Early nineteenth-century red morocco, bound for the Bodleian Library; the gold stamp of the Library on both covers. Gilt-edged leaves; marbled pastedowns. Size: 208 × 152 × 42 mm. Size of leaf: 198 × 141 mm. Some corrections made by erasure. On [a1r] a three-line initial ‘O' is supplied in gold on a red and blue ground decorated in white and edged in black, and, within the body of the letter, a coat of arms: argent, a chevron enhanced azure. One- and two-line initials and paragraph marks are supplied in gold on a red and blue ground decorated in white and edged in black. Capitals are touched with yellow wash. Provenance: Unidentified coat of arms (see above). Edward Bernard (1638-1697); not identified in Wanley's list. Presumably among the books purchased in 1697 from Bernard's widow.
