  1. S-122(1) First copy Wanting the blank leaves [a1], [h6], [i1], and [D8]; leaf [*1] cut out and mounted. Binding: Nineteenth-century diced russia, with the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Gilt-edged leaves; marbled pastedowns; green silk bookmark. Size: 320 × 223 × 65 mm. Size of leaf: 311 × 197 mm. A few marginal notes, mainly underlining and explaining particular words, in two early hands in brown ink, one probably contemporary, the other sixteenth-century. On [a6r] an eight-line initial ‘E' is supplied in gold, edged in black and surrounded by white vine-stems defined in red, blue, or green; a floral border, possibly slightly later, is supplied in red, blue, green, and gold dots. In the lower margin the arms are surrounded by a wreath and some of the same decoration found in the border; see Pächt and Alexander II, 110 no. pr. 69. Principal initials are supplied either in the same style as the initial on [a6r] or in gold edged in black on a square red or blue ground with white pen-work decoration.
