Aegritudines istae a duabus eueniunt causis . . .’ Johannes Serapion is usually recognized as the author. On the Latin translation by Gerardus of Cremona see D. Jacquart and F. S-179(1) Copy Binding: Nineteenth-century black paper boards; endleaves contemporary with binding; ‘Serapionis' written diagonally in brown ink in the upper left-hand corner of the front pastedown. Size: 305 × 216 × 31 mm. Size of leaf: 291 × 197 mm. Occasional marginal notes in a c.1500 German hand, notes in a slightly later German hand, providing side-headings. Notes on the front and rear endleaves in a later sixteenth-century German hand, probably that of Leonhardt Baltreter(?), the owner and annotator of S‑181. Three- to eight-line initials, pilcrows, and underlining are supplied in red or blue ink; capital strokes and book numbers at the head of each recto are supplied in red. Provenance: Leonhardt Baltreter(?) (fl. 1572); see manuscript notes. Thomas Rodd (1796-1849); ‘Rodd 11/41' on front pastedown.
