Binding: Sixteenth-century blind-tooled (fillets only) parchment over reused pasteboards, originally belonging to a German sixteenth-century(?) blind-tooled calf binding, visible at the inner face of boards. Strips from a fifteenth/sixteenth-century religious printed book in English are visible in the binding. Manuscript shelfmark in brown ink at the head of the spine. Size: 197 × 135 × 20 mm. Size of leaf: 192 × 134 mm. On the second front endleaf genealogical information on Margaret, Countess of Richmond and Derby: ‘Genealogia Illustrissimae Principii Margaretae Richmondiae et Derbiae Comitissae', apparently in the hand of Thomas Barlow, Bodley's Librarian (1652-60). Manuscript foliation: 1-101. On A3r: ‘Azazyell(?)' in an early hand in brown ink. Some marginal notes, mainly providing chapter headings and extraction of key concepts, in a sixteenth-century English hand, in English, in brown ink. Provenance: ‘Christopher Mandyke | George Malkines'; inscription on the front endleaf in brown ink. Certainly in the Library by 1674; see Hyde, Catalogus (1674), I 459; the annotations by Barlow imply that it had arrived earlier, no later than 1660. SHELFMARK: 4° L 57 Th.
