[Cologne: Printer of Augustinus, ‘De fide', c.1473]. Folio. Oates attributes to Goiswin Gops, which is doubted by Sheppard on grounds of differences in type measurements. Corsten, Anfänge, 44-5 attributes to Johann Schilling; Needham, ‘Cologne Partners', at 126-8, finds evidence wanting for both attributions.

1. T-196(1) First copy Wanting the blank leaf [a1]. Leaf [i5r], col. 1, l. 1: ‘uitaretur . . .', as in CIBN, fourth copy. Binding: Sixteenth-century German calf, both covers lost, pieces remaining on the spine. Originally bound with at least one other item. Five double alum-tawed sewing supports. Parchment internal reinforcement guards from a thirteenth-century manuscript. Faded manuscript title along lower edge. Now kept in a box: early twentieth-century marbled paper boards; parchment spine, with the title in gilt. Size: 280 × 213 × 40 mm. Size of leaf: 280 × 205 mm. Some marginal notes in a contemporary hand, supplying brackets, ‘nota' marks, notes of ‘exempla', ‘lege', and pointing hands. Annotations to the summary in [q9v –q10v] in a sixteenth-century continental hand, listing, against appropriate sections of the summary, an example of the type of person (e.g. ‘magister') who would undertake the tasks described. The numbers ‘377' in black in in a late sixteenth-century(?) hand, and ‘432' in red crayon in a seventeenth-century hand. Three- to four-line initials (some with reserved white decoration), paragraph marks, capital strokes, and underlining are supplied in red. Provenance: Limburg an der Lahn, Hesse, Observant Franciscans; inscription on [a2r]: ‘Bibl. Fratrum Min. Limb. Recoll.' Eugen Freiherr von Mocler (fl. c.1839); armorial book-plate on [r8v]: azure a balance(?) or between three trefoils of the second; inscribed ‘Bibliothek Oberherrlingen. 1839. E. M.' Size of leaf: 265 × 194 mm. Leaf and signature numbers in arabic figures are supplied in pencil. On [a2r] a four-line initial ‘R' is supplied in red with reserved white decoration. On [q9v] a similar initial ‘R' is supplied with extensions into the outer margin. Elsewhere three- to four-line initials (some with reserved white decoration), capital strokes, paragraph marks, and some underlining also supplied in red.
