Seven-panelled spine featuring framed bird tool. Gilt title on red leather label in the second panel, imprint and date on green leather label in the third panel. Gilt-edged leaves. Marbled pastedowns. On the verso of the front endleaf a label reading “Relié par MOUILLIE Rue S. Jacques, Hôtel de la Couture, No. 65” [the 5 is in pen and the original engraved figure was probably 69]; salmon pink silk bookmark. See Barber, ‘Baroque to Neoclassicism', no. 39. Size: 328 × 238 × 42 mm. Size of leaf: 319 × 222 mm. On [a1r] two notes in a contemporary French hand: ‘Item iiiis dcc u L[ ]ua ‘. Roman leaf numbers supplied in a sixteenth-century(?) hand. Two- to five-line initials are supplied in alternate red or blue, some with reserved white decoration.
