Binding: Contemporary, probably French in Italian style, blind-tooled sheep over pasteboards. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover; holes for two sets of ties on the fore-edge, and one each on the upper and lower edges; flat spine with three double bands. On both covers quadruple fillets form concentric frames. Within the inner frame is a repeated ornamental stamp, made up of a diaper flanked by trilobes. Further quadruple fillets form the inner rectangle. Each corner of the rectangle is divided off with triple semi-circular fillets, edged with a repeated chain tool and containing a small lattice-work stamp repeated four times to make a square. In the middle of the rectangle is a lozenge-shaped centre-piece formed by triple fillets and decorated with the repeated lattice-work stamp. The spine is decorated with single fillets forming triangular and lozenge-shaped compartments.
Size: 260 × 190 × 55 mm.
Size of leaf: 255 × 186 mm.
Some marginal notes, mainly extracting key words and structuring the text, occasionally providing corrections to it, in a contemporary hand in brown and red ink. In the same hand also manuscript foliation 1-2010 [for 210], and running book numbers.
Provenance: Frater Claudius Muletus (fifteenth/sixteenth century); inscription on front endleaf: ‘Ad usum fratris Claudij Muleti' and erased inscription on a2r, probably the same person: ‘Frater Claudius Guillesinus conventus s Mariae Egiptiacae'.
Thomas Simson (sixteenth century); inscription on a2r: ‘Liber Thomae Simsoni'.
